My Guest, Mr. Foster!

Mr. DiPasqua: Hi folks! I’m back for this month’s RH interview! As I mentioned in my last post, I usually do my RH interviews on the first of the month, but I delayed it a few days so that I could take my Dear Wife on a wonderfully romantic Italian getaway. We had a great time in Italy! I’m happy to be here today with you. And I’m super excited about my guest today!  Please help me give a warm welcome to Mr. Foster!  Bienvenuti!!! (That means Welcome… Okay, Dear Wife – please no more eye roles. I promise not to mangle the Italian language any further.) Mr. Foster, can you tell us who you’re married to and what she writes?

Mr. Foster:  Lori Foster. She writes bestselling contemporary romances. Her last trilogy was romantic suspense, but she’s won awards for romantic comedy, romantic suspense, and one of her urban fantasy books was named Amazon’s #1 editors’ pick in romance.

Mr. DiPasqua: Your wife’s fans would like to know the RH (Romance Husband) behind the author better. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Scholar? Athlete? Businessman? Artist?

Mr. Foster:  Well I’m not a big scholar or artist. As for athlete – kinda, or at least as much as a fifty-plus year old can be. Because I help Lori with anything she needs, especially promo, I guess I’m called on to be a little of all those things.

Mr. DiPasqua: I think as far as RHs go, we all fill that “Jack-of-all-Trades” role for our DW.  I wonder if someone can come up with a more official sounding title for that. ;) Where did you and your wife meet, Mr. Foster? What convinced you that she was THE ONE?

Mr. Foster:  We met in high school, the third day of our sophomore year.

After high school I was set to head off to college, but the idea of being away from her hit me hard, and panicked me a little, too.

There and then I knew life is a road that I wanted to be on with her, for good.
So we married right out of high school.

Mr. DiPasqua: High school sweethearts!! That’s great! Where were you when she got THE CALL from her agent/editor? What was your reaction when she told you she’d sold her first book?

Mr. Foster:  I was at home when she told me. It was after an “OVRWA” (local writing chapter) conference. I was all smiles for a long time, and to this day, I’m proud over her accomplishments.

Mr. DiPasqua: Is the hero in your wife’s last book:
a) Just like you;
b) The opposite of you;
c) You wish it were you;
d) More like Mr. May in the NYC Firefighter calendar.

Mr. Foster:  If there was a “none of the above” choice that would be more like it.
Lori’s last heroes were fighting human traffickers. Those guys were living on the edge and found love there. I like the middle ground and found my girl in high school.

Mr. DiPasqua: On your first date with your wife, were you most like:
a) Prince Charming;
b) Prince (bad boy) Harry;
c) The Artist formally known as Prince;
d) Prince, the family pet.

Mr. Foster:  I manned up to ask her out, but that’s where it ended. Neither of us had dated much before meeting each other. The “kiss good night” happened because she stared me down. ;-) But we’ve always been on the same page (with life, I mean) and we’ve been married over 30 years now.

Mr. DiPasqua: It must have been quite the stare! :) Nowadays when you hear the word “ball” do you immediately think:
a) Baseball
b) Basketball
c) An uncontrollable weeping reaction of fans upon meeting your wife in person?
d) A gathering of lords and ladies.

Mr. Foster:  I think of sports like baseball or football. Lori avoids the dances, and that works for me since I’m not much of a dancer either. We’re both more the “stay home and watch a movie together” type. Or go to the movies type. Her readers probably know that we see a LOT of movies.

Mr. DiPasqua: How long have you been a RH? (Romance Husband). What advice would you give new RH’s about what you’ve learned being married to a romance author? What should a new RH do or not do when his wife is under deadline?

Mr. Foster:  Lori’s been writing for a long time now, maybe 18years. I think I learned early that what she was, or is doing, is as or more important than what I’m doing. Deadline or not, I try to keep the everyday life thing off her back as much as possible. Try and do as much as you can with chores and kids. I think she’ll appreciate it very much – and really, those dishes are yours too. This is the hard one, but remember, if she needs writing or business help, she’ll ask!! Don’t be pushy, and try to remember that her writing is the business.

Mr. DiPasqua: Very sound advice….Okay, you know I have to go there . . . What’s your response when asked, “So where does your wife get the inspiration for her love scenes?” (Usually by a guy smirking.)

Mr. Foster:  I have a shirt that says, “She gets all her ideas from me.” But seriously, I tell the truth. She’s a writer, so she has plenty of ideas. She doesn’t need help from anyone.

Mr. DiPasqua: LOL! Great answer!  Which character in your wife’s books would she say most resembles you and/or your personality?

Mr. Foster:  She claims that they all have a few qualities that I have, or that she says I have.
I tell people I’m in the pages and not on the cover. LOL

Mr. DiPasqua: Tell me something about your wife her fans would be surprised to learn.

Mr. Foster:  Lori is a huge horror fan. She hates chick flicks; when I watch them (because I like them) I have to watch them by myself! She laughs constantly at inappropriate times at the movies. (Like when someone gets killed or hurt, or scenes that make other people scream or jump.) She also loves head banging death metal music. If you want old, slow, love songs, see me. LOL
She likes KORN, I like Elvis. That sort of thing.

Mr. DiPasqua: Thanks so much. You’ve been a great sport! One last question: What would you like us to know about your wife’s latest or upcoming release?

Mr. Foster:  Hmmm. Well, her most recent new series was out May, June and July with the “Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor” series. (That’s the human-traffickers I mentioned.) “When You Dare,” “Trace of Fever,” and “Savor the Danger.”

Her popular “Buckhorn Brothers” are being reissued again. End of October is a compilation of “Sawyer” & “Morgan” in “Buckhorn Beginnings.” Then in Feb 2012, “Forever Buckhorn” is being released with a “Gabe” & “Jordan” compilation.

One of Lori’s personal favorites of her own work is “The Watson Brothers,” a reissue of 3 of her novellas repackaged together. We’ll give away a copy of that, along with a T-shirt and some magnets and other promo stuff.
US/Canada only.

To win you must:

1. Reside in the US or Canada and ask a question or leave a meaningful comment.

2. You MUST be a follower/subscriber of Lila DiPasqua’s blog (through Google Friend Connect).

3. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Contest ends Saturday Oct. 8th 2011. Winner will be selected at random on Sunday Oct. 9th, 2011.

Mr. DiPasqua:  Thanks again for being here, Mr. Foster. It was a real pleasure chatting with you! See everyone next month for my next RH chat!!  Okay, folks, let’s hear your comments! :)

  • Hi, Mr. D! Hope you and Mrs. D. had a “fabuloso” time in Italy!

    Hello, Mr. Foster! You are my favorite RH–what a terrific and touching real-life love story! We should all be as fortunate as you and Lori : )

    Lori seems like a person who “gets things done”. From all that I have observed, she likes to give back more than she gets–she does a lot of work supporting various charities and worthy causes. Having read your interview, you seem as though you are right there with her, allowing her to move forward. I love the fact that you met so young and have stayed together. I just read Lori’s newsletter, and she says that you two just bought a lake house, a boat, and a seadoo! Your family sounds as though it is very active–what are some of your other favorite things to do for fun?

  • Sounds like you had a fabulous time in Italy! Welcome back! Sooo romantic – married right out of high school. I never would’ve guessed your wife is a horror fan. Or death metal music fan. But I’m so glad she writes romance because she’s one of my favourite authors.

    Yet another great interview – these are so much fun!

  • An RH interview what a fun idea. But scary too — like the horror movies Lori likes. I can’t imagine what my husband would say!

  • fantastic interview.
    I especially like the line, “I tell people I’m in the pages and not on the cover.”
    Lori, you definitely found yourself a wonderful, supportive spouse.

  • Hi Mr Foster, I love that Lila is doing the husband interviews. I am a big fan of Lori’s book, loved When you Dare, Trace of Fever, and Savor the Danger. I especially loved the covers of these. I am like you when it comes to the movies. My husband loves the scary and I like the romance. I hate gory, scary movies.
    Thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win. These novellas look great and would love to win and read them. I have not had the chance to check this series out.

  • Hi Mr D glad ya’ll had a good time in Italy! Mr F great interview! I love Lori’s books, Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor was one of the best series I’ve read in years.

    What a coincidence that Mr. Foster is here today, I’m just finishing off ‘When You Dare’ and have ‘Trace of Fever’ on deck. I Love Lori’s books! Are either of you neatniks like Dare? Since Molly is a writer, do you see a lot of Lori in her?

    Hi, Mr. D. and Mr. Foster,
    I love these RH interviews, thanks for the great giveaway.

  • Hi Mr.& Mrs.D. I am new to your site. I was sent over here by Lori’s FB post to read Mr. Foster’s interview. I have to say that I quite enjoy hearing from the men behind the women. It is a nice change to hear about the man behind one of my favorite writers. Mr.Foster, thank you for taking time to do the interview and being a wonderful husband to Lori.

  • I loved the interview. so cool to hear a man’s point also. I am new to this site. Love your books. Your an amazing author.

  • I enjoy these interviews with the husbands. It’s always neat to find out things about an author besides that they write great books. :D I never would have guessed that Lori preferred horror movies over chick flicks or that her choice of music was head banging death metal music.

    I live in the US and am well over 18. LOL And a subscriber.

    Wow… Mr. D… I want to go to Italy too. :) Hope you and Mrs. D had a lovely time! :)

    Mr. Foster, married for 30 yrs! :) It’s always so nice to hear about long and loving marriages. :) I am sure that your wonderful support and willingness to do dishes have a lot to do with it. :) Always love your wife’s books!

    We are pretty active. We like going to the movies, hanging out with family, catching some of the high school wrestling matches, and going to outdoor places like Hocking Hills, Natural Bridge, caves, and stuff like that.
    I really love helping Lori with her advertisement. I enjoy arranging stuff and trying new things – and she doesn’t, so it works out.

    We’re not obessive (I don’t think) but yes, we are pretty clean – even with 4 cats and a dog… and a grandson. We are pretty organized in all ways.

    Thank you everyone.

  • Mr. Foster, welcome! It’s such a honor to have you here. Your wife is one of my favorite authors and I’ve had a ball both times I’ve attended her annual Reader & Author Get Together in June!

    Thanks so much for entertaining us with your delightful interview—and for supporting Lori so she can continue to give us more books to fall in love with. :)

  • Love that you are high school sweethearts. That is wonderful you have been married for 30 years. I love to hear about the husbands behind the authors. Lori is an awesome writer. Thanks for the great interview.

  • Thanks everyone who commented about the RH reviews and our trip to Italy! Mr. D thinks of himself as a blogging celebrity now. LOL! I don’t anticipate he’ll grow tired of chatting with other RHs here once per month.

    He’ll be here later tonight to comment.

    On his behalf—thanks so much, everyone, for the warm reception to his interviews!

    I love that y’all met in HS & are still together. The death metal, horror movies & inappropriate laughter just don’t fit w/ the looks. What fun things we learn in the man behind the woman interviews! Such fun…

    Thanks for the wonderful interview! It’s so sweet that Mr. and Mrs. Foster married right out of high school and are still together. That shows that true love does endure. I’ve read my first Lori Foster book recently, Too Much Temptation. I really loved the curvy and not stick-thin heroine. Of course, there were those hot scenes as well. I’d love to read more of Lori’s books.

  • Hi Lila and Mr. D! Sounds like you had a wonderful trip to Italy.

    Great interview Mr. Foster! Wonderful that you married right after high school and are still together 30 years later. My husband and I are almost ready for our 39th anniversary, and we have 3 dogs with no children. I am a relatively new reader of Lori’s books, but what I have read, I really enjoyed. Wow! She has been a romance writer for 18 years. That’s wonderful and quite an accomplishment! Do you take many trips for Lori to do her research? If so, where have you gone? Four dogs, a cat, and a grandson. Lol! How many children do you have?

    Thanks again for a great and fun interview! Love Mr. D’s RH interviews!

    debby236 at gmail dot com

  • Nice to meet you Mr. Foster, I love Lori’s books and so glad they are reisueing some of them. Do you read your wifes books?

  • High school sweethearts =) I married mine too, just something about knowing someone that knew you when you were still young and dumb yet loves you anyway. Sounds like you and your wife maybe a little bit of opposites attract, but she is lucky to have a husband that is so understanding and willing to help out.

    I have never read any of your wife’s books, but I will have to check them out. A fun interview to read, glad you were featured!
    Thanks for a chance to win and check out your wife’s work.

  • Mr. D, It’s so good to have you back again with the husbands of our favorite authors!

    Mr. Foster, I’m sure that you meant to say that you’d ONLY been married for over 30 years! The best is yet to come! Being married for over 40 years my husband and I feel like we’re a fine wine (or better yet a single malt Scotch) – just getting better with age!

    Please thank Lori for me for bring my beloved Watson brothers back! They were the first books by Lori I read and made me a fan for life.

    Great interview and after feeling like I’ve know Lori for years it’s wonderful to finally meet her better half! (Or that’s what my husband would say).

  • Great interview1 It’s always fun to get a new perspective and the ‘husband’ view is fun.

    Welcome back from Italy.

    Thanks for a chance to win.

    I’ve missed these interviews. Lori has a lot of great releases out and I’m looking forward to her “Men Who Walk The Edge of Honor” series. It’s great to see so many of these heroes’ traits are inspired by husbands. Great interview.

    I love that Lori loves heavy metal. I’m surprised that she loves horror. Thanks for the contest. lisagk(at)yahoo(dot)com

  • Love these husband interviews. They give such a different perspective on the authors lives. I also enjoyed hearing how Mr. Foster tries to take care of the mundane things in their lives to enable Lori to concentrate on her writing.

  • Hi Mr D! The trip to Italy sounds wonderful – hope we hear more about that on one of your posts.

    Mr. Foster, thank you for a great interview and Congratulations on 30+ years of marriage – quite an achievement. I must admit that I haven’t read all of Lori’s books, but those I have end up on my keeper shelf for re-reads. The Tails of Love anthology book is going to be Christmas gifts for my animal loving friends!

    What is the most romantic vacation that you and Lori have taken – other than your honeymoon?

    Thank you!
